Fisheries Tasmania FADS

Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) are structures placed in the ocean to attract species such as yellowtail kingfish and tunas. In February, three FADs were trialled off the East Coast, two in Coles Bay and one near Binalong Bay. At the end of April they were retrieved to avoid interactions with migrating whales. They will be re-deployed in December along with more FADs at locations around Tasmania, including Freycinet and south east of Pirates Bay.

If you went fishing near them, please give us feedback about your experiences. If you didnít but are interested in FADs, tell us your views on future deployments:

Gíday Dan

Thanks for the post. Fished of a couple of deeper water moored bouts in various area of the state and really surprised at how well the fish held. Particularly kingfish, always seemed to be there at one in particular.

Interested to know how often whales would venture that far up into coles bay think1

Cheers proka

Haven't been lucky enough to come across a king yet. Have heard they like to hang around structure, can only imagine more fads to be a good thing for the rec fishers.  fish1
