Scollie opening 2021
« on: March 28, 2021, 06:27:43 pm »
Did a dive in Mercury Passage today. Thought we must of missed a memo as we were the only car in the carpark at 9am.  Never seen an opening weekend like it think1

Water coming out of Triabunna was bloody horrible, brown and full of debris with some big surface floating logs amongst them.

Got down the passage a bit and started to clear to a milky green colour so we knew the vis wasn’t going to be good. Jumped in at 13m and dived live til we hit about 9m. This took @ 17 mins. Surfaced checked the catch and motored back out to 12m, jumped back in for another 15 mins to get our quota. Vis probably only 4-5 m max.

Certainly now where near the same amount of scollies as last year either. Lot more queens about too. Some in full purple row but most not.

Once we’d sorted the scollie’s moved to the western side of the passage towards Hellfire and got our bag of crays and a feed of ab’s.

All in all a good day out and has Good Friday’s seafood sorted  thumbsup1

All packaged up ready for next week grin1

Cheers proka

G’day Adrian, we did but not as much as a couple of mates today. Dived the passage and they got 52 scollies between two of them in 3 jumps. I think the decision to open the scallop season til November was the stupidest decision ever. We’re about to see another wipeout like down the Channel  furious1

Well done Proka, certainly a great feast for Easter. Can be so variable at the ramp - some days can hardly get a park, others are there by yourself.

G’day Steve,

You’re right there thumbsup1 Had another go at them last weekend but in a different spot and a good run south. Thick as oysters but nearly all of them 5-10mm undersized. Took a bit to get our bag but in 2.5-3m of water we could of spent all day there grin1
