Hatches made for a tough spin session..
« on: November 09, 2020, 08:30:19 pm »
Hit the upper Mersey a few days ago, massive dun hatch when I was there, trout surface feeding in most sections of the river which made for a tough spin session. Managed to catch and release 3 rainbows and 2 browns from seven hook ups.. Majority of them were small fish, best one (brown trout) going 320 grams.. Beautiful morning to be in the river,,,the Mepps #0 Stone Fly Bug spinner did the job on four of the trout & an old hand painted lure picked up the biggest brown.

cheers
Adrian (meppstas)

Beautiful day, great-looking river conditions, and some good looking fish: nice going Adrian!  thumbsup1

When are you going to take up the fly rod?  With water like that on hand, it would be a delightful alternative on the right day!

I did try fly fishing many, many years ago Paul, but decided to stay with what I know best..
The conditions were ideal for the fly fisher too, matching the hatch would have been quite easy for them as well..

cheers
Adrian
