Chasing Flatties

Took the Grandkids out chasing Flatties just after Christmas on a few trips and whilst we caught hundreds of little ones we got very few keepers.  One good trip to Lauderdale we got 22 but our other trips around South Arm we got under 10 keepers each trip.  The boys still had a ball constantly catching fish, sometimes even 2 at a time but tough going to get a decent feed.

A Tip: We did find that with the big tides you have to be fishing an hour before the top or bottom of the tide and just an hour or so after because the run gets too fast to hold the bottom even when fishing pretty shallow.

Anyone else doing any good?  We have not been able to track down any calamari either - anyone else catching some?

Cheers

I spent a morning bumbling around Port Cygnet last week for similar result:  trolling pulled any amount of cocky salmon - all too small to bother keeping - and bottom fishing several spots there were plenty of flathead, but not one keeper.  Water was beautifully clear: see bottom easily in 4metres.  Water temp around 15deg C.  Haven't tried for squid anywhere for a while, so no idea what's the go with them at present.

They sure are getting harder to find nowadays.
Get yourself a see anchor to slow your drift on the faster currents.
They work amazingly
