I've had three trips out down the lower Huon the past couple of weeks, and can report that there are still spots where size flathead can be had - in bigger numbers than the undersized. There are also spots where the opposite is the case, such as Port Esperance (Dover) - I spent four hours the other day hauling fish hand over fist non-stop for three keepers!
Also plenty of mackerel just about everywhere: even schools of jack mackerel and slimy mackerel together, which I've never encountered before. At the same time, Aus salmon seem to have all but vanished from those areas.
A few juvenile 'couta starting to show up as well: bloody nuisances.
And, in Port Esperance especially, but elswhere in the Huon too, the fishing can be happening one minute and suddenly stone dead, then one of these pops up and glares at you:...
