Don't be stubborn, dial 000
« on: July 16, 2019, 11:06:19 pm »
Well, finished up today taking an ambulance to the Burnie Hospital (60kms away)with chest and abdominal pains,, spent 5 hours in the emergency department and after a few x-rays was given the okay to head for home. Minor heart problems found so have to see specialist at Launceston at a later date & ultra sound on the abdomin this Friday.. Great service by the Tasmanian Ambulance Service, they arrived while Pam was still on the triple 0 call with the operator who really kept Pam calm.. The ambos were great as was the Burnie Emergency Staff.. A big thank you to our daughter Joanne for running Pam to Burnie as well as picking me up after being released from hospital.. Should have phoned the ambulance at 3:40am Monday when it was at it worst, Pam did suggest it but me being a little on the stubborn side said it would pass.. it didn't did it, so next time there will be no hesitation it will be an immediate 000 phone call... So guys, don't be like me, if you feel really crook don't hesitate to call the 000 number..

cheers
Adrian

You are one lucky guy Adrian. Not everyone gets away with a turn like that.

I had a similar experience in Port Douglas, including the paddles with the big shock. (we should design and wear a "Cardiac Survivor" T Shirt.) No, I never want to go through that again. 7 days in the ICU at Cairns was enough followed by an ablation operation on the power plant when I got back to Sydney and a life time supply of medication to stop it happening again. All good now.

It does focus your mind on what is important.

Cheers

If in doubt about 000, then can ring Ambulance Nonurgent number 1800 008 008 and talk to them. When I used it, able to discuss problem and they sent paramedic as soon as available - came quietly in 10 minutes , great service.

Good luck on the treadmill.   They do try and make you work pretty hard.  A funny story for you re my effort on the stress test a few months ago.  I went in for my test and they wired me up and off I went on the treadmill.  The first few minutes was okay and then they started increasing the speed and the slope and it was giving me a pretty good workout.  After about 11 minutes I was sweating and pretty well stuffed, gasping away and the Doc said to try and keep going for another 30 seconds or so.   Anyway, I got to about 12 minutes and 10 seconds and then they moved me over to a bed to do the scans etc to see if any of the blockages are bad enough to require stents etc..  I thought that I had done pretty well considering I am a bit overweight and don't get much exercise apart from golf, fishing and walking the dog.  A few weeks later, and a very good friend of mine that I pay golf with had to have a test after having some chest pains.  He and I are extremely competitive on the golf course but what I didn't know was just how competitive he really is in all parts of his life.  He did his test a couple of weeks later and knowing how long I'd lasted on the treadmill he was apparently determined to beat my time.  He is and has always been a natural athlete so he had no trouble beating my time and the next time we played together a few days later he was happily telling me how after 15 minutes on the treadmill he had got into a nice jogging rhythm and the Doc said he could stop as he was going too well.  And then the punch line - he says to me - I have been training everyday for the last 2 weeks to make sure that I could beat your time.  I had a really good laugh at just how competitive this guy really is.
Good luck with your test and you now know the time to beat.  laugh1 laugh1 laugh1

That's good news Adrian. If you do get that trophy trout, don't get too excited.
