Best land based squid locations?
« on: May 09, 2019, 01:36:04 pm »
I've recently started squid fishing, however as of yet I've had no luck. Has anyone been catching many landbased in areas like hobart, kingston, margate, sorell etc? It's an absolute pain not being able to get out on a boat.

Don't worry, they have been few and far between even from the boat lately.  Water temps around southern areas have dropped noticeably the past few weeks, and some estuarine waters have had a bit of fresh - always slows the fishing.

Generally speaking, if you don't see fresh squid ink on South Arm jetty, Dru Point boat ramp jetty (Margate), or further afield, Dover wharf or Pirates Bay jetty, you can pretty much reckon they've gone bye-byes for the winter.

I have heard that a few are still being caught up at Triabunna around the jetties
