Hi All, hear are a couple of pics of my new (*old 😊) boat. It’s a yellow topped HH V17L. It is a 1986 hull with a 1984 185HP Evinrude V6 strapped to the back to propel me to space ha ha. The whole thing is in remarkably good condition given its age.

Like any boat owner I already have some projects in mind being (in this order);
-   Aux motor and bracket – not that I don’t trust a 34 year old Evinrude ha ha
-   Drill wood at top of transom (good nick but I can only store outside) and just behind fuel tank (shoddy DIY job with the tank) and seal with norseal or west. Overall the hull and transome are excellent but best to get on top of it
-   Fix the custom made 110L fuel tank so that I can get off the little AUX tanks;
-   Sounder. Thinking Lowrance HDS 7 or Elite TI2 9”
-    New motor – I would love to hear any advice from people that have owned these hulls. I would love to have a 90hp e-tec for the overall cost savings on fuel and initial purchase price but am worried that might not be enough grunt

Nice looking rig Mullet

if you’re gunna list things in priority go safety 1st. Add the auxiliary bracket and aux. in saying that those older evinrudes were fairly reliable. Run the right oil mix and you should be right.

Yep the Aux is number one for sure.

I am looking forwards to getting out and about while the weather is still good.

Great-looking boat, Mullet!

I second Proka's comment. Also in terms of safety, is that motor not just a bit too big for the vessel? Given that the current Haines Hunter Profish 535 (marginally bigger than the old V17, as I understand it) is factory rated for 130hp max. I reckon there have been more cases of people coming to grief in boats that were greatly over-powered, than in under-powered ones!

I agree reddory. When it comes time to repower I will not be going that high but in fairness it has probably lost 20% of its rated power over the years anyway.
