Pigeon Holes or Goats Bluff??
« on: January 12, 2019, 10:28:54 am »
Hi all how’s it going?
Just wondering what is a better place to fish off the rocks, either goats bluff or pigeon holes? And what am I most likely to catch in these spots? and when is the best tide and time and of day to fish these areas?
Any help will be really appreciated
Cheers
Matt

I reckon either spots would be productive at this time of year. Expect to catch the usual species, flathead, salmon, mullet etc. And always the possibility of a kingfish if your lucky.
Let us know how you go of you head out  haven't fished that area for a while.

Goats bluff offers the opportunity for bigger fish, and even a gummy shark if you have a decent rod and like to fish around dusk. You cannot keep gummies caught in the derwent estuary.  I tend to think the flathead you get off the bluff are potentially of a better size.

good luck!

I checked out goats bluff the other day but was no good as southerly wind!

Which side is better for fishing? and is there access from the top or do you just walk around from the beach.

Thanks,
Aaron

I reckon the wind will always be the issue there, since it faces directly the open sea. You may have to deal with that.

Regarding the second Q., I may have the same wonder, however, don't ever want to go there fishing since the wind is unbearable for me. thatsenough1

On access, there is a track that takes you down a ridge to access further along the rock.

From the lookout walk on the path down towards the beach. About a 200m along a path with branch off through the scrub. Walk along this toward the cliff and you will see it drop down along a ridge the the rocks below. It's not very steep but is a bit of a pain carrying a bunch of fishing gear.

Good luck and let us know how you go. I've only ever caught a few small aussie salmon from there.

Awesome thanks for that i must have missed the turn when i scoped it out last time.
I'll go and scope it out next time its northerly wind. It has the appearance of a good fishing spot at least.
