Strange Catch

Hey fellow fishers,

Caught a saw shark in/around dodges ferry yesterday , has anyone caught one of these before in this area?

Released it as I figured that as it's part of the shark/ray family I couldn't keep it given the shark refuge area.

Unfortunately I couldn't take a pic as it cut through my light line just as I went to grab it's tail. Probably a good thing as I was bare foot neenaw1

Have heard of the odd one or to, but not in that close. Usually found out in deeper waters I thought.

Nice work though and shame about the lack of photo. Would have liked to have seen it.

What were you targeting when you caught this guy?

Yes I thought they were deep water also. Last time I saw one was when I was a decky on the West coast when we caught one on a long line whilst sharking

Was burleying for mackeral at the time so I'd say it picked up the trail.

Plenty of one metre long ones over Smooth Island  Norfolk Bay Tas.   dont put a net in there they are a demon to remove.

Would imagine so...I didn't want my feet shredded so was a good thing it released itself, was 1m+
