SPIDERS?
« on: September 20, 2017, 05:28:45 pm »
OK, I confess, I haven't a clue what is meant by "Spiders" in the list of people who are on the site at any one time. I have searched every part of the site to try and find out what/who they are, but no luck.  wtf1

Please put me out of my misery and enlighten me.

Thanks

Paikea

Sorry, will put that into perspective,
Green Point boat ramp, last summer,
heard a couple of fellas in conversation ask the question,  how many spiders in your pot this time.
was new to me, but made sense I guess.

Hi Paikea are you talking about the "spiders" where it shows member activity?
Maybe just inactive members? May have to ask admin.

Now that's what I get for not reading things properly  oops1
I hadn't even noticed spiders on the list,
I agree Mr Marriott, that would more than likely be a question for Admin. Totally different spider  thumbsup1

I have heard the terminology referring to spiders in the pot as being crayfish too,

I just didn't read the site content properly, I didn't realise spiders was on the list,

Can someone who is attached to Administration for FBT clear this one up please,

Now I am intrigued as well whistlingdixie1

Think I may have found out what a spider is for this site,

Go to the home page, click on help, on the left hand column there is a search box,

type in spiders click on go and an explanatory section appears,

Hope this helps

Ok, I don't feel quite as dumb now.

Been wondering what Spiders referred to in the description of who is on the site at any time (bottom of the Forum page) but now clear that I am not the only one.

Looking forward to Admin "fessing up" to this one.

Might they be unwelcome visitors?  oops1

Ok, I searched Dr Google who provided the following description:

A spider is a program that visits Web sites and reads their pages and other information in order to create entries for a search engine index. The major search engines on the Web all have such a program, which is also known as a "crawler" or a "bot."

Now we can all rest easy!  cool1

Now why didn't I think of that before? Too easy!

Cheers
