I would reckon go classic, copy the magazine scheme, or, preferably, reverse it, deep red-brown below waterline, white hull & superstructure, red trim, grey non-slip interior. Strangely similar to my Dad's pro mackeral boat in NQ in the 1970's, I spent a lot of weekends slopping on those colours!

Thanks for feedback guys.  I am steering towards white bottom a navy blue hull and white decks. In addition to the paint I have celery top gunwhales and a bow sprit. Hopefully, if all goes according to plan we will in the flathead comp early next year.  I'll keep you posted.

When I had an 18ft Hartley I painted the bottom orange as I did with my tinnies back in my salt water fishing days.

Main reason was because if the boat happened to flip or get over turned by a freak wave, orange was a great colour to see from the air...

 The orange colour never distracted the fish from taking a bait either..
